I've had the same thought, myself. Gluttony is clearly outlawed in the Bible (7 deadly sins). If you are obese, there is almost definitely some gluttony going on. So many DFing offenses are not backed up by the Bible, but this one is clearly mentioned, yet no one is ever before the elders for eating. Just another double standard for the pile.

Should obesity be a DF offense?
by jws ina headline on today's usa today says that obesity is the #1 killer.
if being fat is such a health risk (like cigarettes), why don't the jws disfellowship people for being obese?.
i know in some cases, people gain weight due to medical problems that are hard to control.

Since leaving how have you changed?
by Joysome inwhat do you find yourself doing differently?.
do you ever feel a little shocked when your opinions on certain things have changed?
things that you were once so adamantly against?.

I have come to believe that I know nothing. My beliefs were shaken to the core and I am now standing in a pile of fragments. All traces of spiritual faith have gone. I don't know why this happened, as I believed in God strongly for a while after leaving. After a while, I couldn't bring myself to read the bible. It had nothing to do with guilt or laziness, just an all of a sudden lack of interest. I'm not sure if this is good or bad.

Describe some the "typical" dubs you would find in nearly every KH
by doodle-v insister self-rightous busy body-- always has her nose in everyone else's business.
makes a point to ask questions without really asking them like "oh we havent seen you here in a looong tiiiime" and "we miss hearing you comment at the meetings" .

Our kitchen was called a "pioneer room." No other church in town has a pioneer room. So there!

LEAST FAVORITE MEETING
by new light init's so hard to choose, but i would have to say the theocratic ministry school was my most hated meeting.
the first few talks were a rephrasing of mind-numbing society doctrine.
then it was time to listen to a ten-year old read nwt to us........... #3 talks, don't even get me started!

Then it was time to listen to a ten-year old read NWT to us........... #3 talks, don't even get me started! The #4 was the highlight for me. Time to wake up and get ready to stand (if I'm able) and sing a sawng of praise. Yay.
It was a well planned program, because without the song-n-stretch no one would make it through the announcements awake. I'll have to search for it, but someone has a whole service meeting (with multi-page letter from Bethel!!!!!) audio for download. If you haven't been to a meeting for a while, it's an amazing experience. It's hard to believe you actually sat through this stifling boredom, some of us for years!
I'd love to hear what your least favorite meetings are/were, and why.

Sister Alzheimer: Certifiably insane with about 50-60 years of pionerring under her belt. Comments at studies are always off-topic and self-praising, and sometimes downright offensive. Conductors always called on her and said a smarmy "thank you" after each one.
Sister Dustmask: The old sister who came to meeting three times a year. Wasn't at the rest because of supposed allegies. Had to come to meeting in a dustmask to keep up charade. Probably a failed attempt a fading.
I realize these types were probably not in many of your congregations, but these are real examples from my old cong.

The Effeminate JW man
by Maverick intime to pick on the guys!
i was an adult when i was conned into the corporate cult known as jehovahs witnesses.
before that time i hung with a rough crowd of guys who carried guns and did bad things to people they didn't like, or who were stupid enough to let these guys know they disliked them.

Valis: It's funny you should mention the guy who married the Mexican girl. I know someone who married a girl from Mexico he can still barely talk to after two years. He almost never expresses his own opinion, and would jump off a cliff if you told him to. This is how I knew him as a non-JW. He is now studying, about to be baptized.

I've noticed the same thing, but it was rarely what I would call effeminate. Sheeplike is more like it. The boy who is born and raised and sticks with it has been oppressed and stunted. The outsider that comes in tends to be weak-willed on his own. Highly-driven individuals are incompatible with WTBTS, unless they are driven toward theocratic goals. Just my $.02.

Did You Ever Tell An Elder Something Confidential Only To Hear It Blabbed??
by minimus inelders are supposed to maintain confidentiality.
if they don't, they can be deleted as elders.
still, one of the biggest complaints that i can recall from some in the congregation, was that elder so-and-so told his wife or another ms that someone had a problem or had to be counseled.....did it ever happen to you?

Happens all the time. I know of something only an elder at the time and the details were spread around before the JC even met. The elder was the "star witness." Elders leak more often than not, in my experience. Never, ever trust one.
